Dr David Rickerby
Institute for Environment and Sustainability, European Commission Joint Research Centre, Italy
David Rickerby obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge and subsequently carried out post-doctoral
research at the Pennsylvania State University. He then joined the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, where he conducted research on nanostructured thin films for biomedical and sensing applications.
His main scientific interests are in the field of nanostructured materials and sensors for environmental monitoring and medical diagnosis. He has also participated in healthcare technology roadmapping studies, nanoscience and nanotechnology foresight and the evaluation of emerging environmental risks of nanotechnologies.
He is currently a member of the Task Force on Environment and Health, developing research strategies to reduce the disease burden caused by environmental factors, to identify and to prevent new environmental health threats, and to strengthen the capacity for EU policy making in this area.
