Henriëtte Bout (1968) studied Medical Biology and Science and Technology Studies in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam. After graduation in 1995 she founded ConScience, a research and consultancy agengy focused on integrity issues. The main subject of ConScience projects is the ethics of biotechnological developments. On this subject Henriette Bout has performed a number of projects for several Dutch Ministries and advisory boards, such as the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

She is a member of the Ethical Committee on Animal Experiments of the Free University in Amsterdam, member of the Dutch Advisory Board Professional Code for Biologists and board member of the Dutch Business Ethics Network. She was editor of two books and has published a number of articles on bioethical subjects. She is designer, coordinator and teacher of the obligatory bachelor course for biology students: "Professional ethics for biologists" at the University of Amsterdam.
