Dr Patricia Osseweijer
After her study in molecular biology and microbiology at Utrecht University Patricia Osseweijer has been involved in the development and implementation of a curriculum in Biotechnology and Medical Biology within the University of Nijmegen. Since 1991 she is employed at Delft University of Technology, for fund acquisition and management of (inter)national research and education projects. In 1999 she was appointed executive secretary of the Department of Biotechnology and the Research School Biotechnological Sciences Delft Leiden. In that function she directs the administration, fund acquisition, project management and PR activities of both organisations and is member of the Management Team, Board and Education Committee. She initiated the establishment of the Biotechnology Project Office which facilitates these tasks with a senior administrator and account manager. Patricia is as lecturer involved in the development and teaching of the subjects on ethics and society issues in biotechnology for the Delft-Leiden MSc programme “Life Science & Technology”. In her capacity as chairman of the Working Group “Biotechnology Research and Higher Education’ of the EFB Task Group on Public Perceptions of Biotechnology she organised many international workshops and courses in this field, such as the international “Advanced Workshop on Bioethics and Public Perceptions”, supported by the European Commission. Patricia has also a long active membership in the EFB Task Group on Education and was involved in a number of international projects. In 1995, she was chosen executive secretary of the EFB Section on Biochemical Engineering Science, which she carried over in 2000. From 1997 to 2001 she was Board member of the Nederlands Society for Biotechnology and since 2001 she is treasurer of the “Stichting Biotechnologie Nederland” (Foundation of the Biotechnology Society). She has been involved in a number of international Congresses as member of its Organising or Scientific Committee. She delivered over 25 contributions at (inter)national meetings, workshops and conferences.
