Dr Robert Doubleday is a social scientist with an interest in the social dimensions of emerging technologies. His research in the field of science and technology studies focuses on the governance of emerging technologies. He is interested in how the changing relations between science and society are reflected in scientific research. His work with the IRC in Nanotechnology includes developing methods for reflection on the social implications of scientific research. He is also working on innovative forms of public debate about science and technology.

He has an MSc in Science and Technology Policy, University of Sussex and a PhD in Geography and Science and Technology Studies, University College London He is an Honorary Research Associate at the Institute for the Environment, Philosophy and Public Policy, Lancaster University and from 2000 to 2001 was a Visiting Fellow, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
