Prof. dr. Cees Dekker, dr. Nynke Dekker (no relation), and dr. Serge Lemay lead the Molecular Biophysics Group at Delft University of Technology. The research of the Molecular Biophysics group focuses on single-molecule biophysics. The group employs magnetic and optical tweezers, AFM, STM, sensitive electrical measurements, and nanofabricated structures to study biomolecular systems and foster new nanotechnology.

Current research lines include:
- Carbon nanotubes, electronic fundamentals and electrochemical sensors
- Local-probe studies of single enzymes acting on DNA and RNA
- DNA and biomolecular motors confined to nanofabricated structures
- Ionic systems on the nanoscale
