Nanomedicine: Reality Now and Soon

23-Oct-2010 to 28-Oct-2010, Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain, Europe

The application of nanotechnology will have a major influence in many fields of medicine. Novel nano-based materials appear in drug delivery systems, diagnostics, imaging, biosensing, and medical materials and devices. This conference aims to provide detailed understanding and discuss the clinical utility of those areas of nanomedicine which are close to application or already clinically applied/on the market.Invited international experts active in nanomedicine development from industry, clinic and academia will give in-depth lectures on the state-of-theart including a critical analysis of the likely impact on human healthcare. Spotlights will also be put on new possibilities arising in the near future. Sessions will include: Advanced Nanomaterials; Nanobioanalytics & Nanotoxicology; Nanopharmaceuticals on the Market; Interactions with the Biological Milieu; Nanoimaging; Ligand-Mediated Targeting; Nanopharmaceuticals in Clinical Development; Targeted Nanomedicine & EC; Intracellular Delivery of Macromolecules; Tissue Repair. Conference format: • lectures by invited high level speakers • short talks by young & early stage researchers • poster sessions, round table and open discussion periods • forward look panel discussion about future developments

NanoImpactNet training school on "Life cycle-based methods for assessing nanomaterials"

09-Nov-2009 to 11-Nov-2009, Bratislava, Slovakia

NanoImpactNet's next event will be a training workshop over 3 days for young researchers on life-cycle based methods for assessing nanomaterials. The increasing production and use of engineered nanoparticles raises concerns over their safety to human and environmental health. This training workshop will focus on life cycle based methods addressing the importance of the whole life cycle concept of nanoproducts primarily in assessing the hazard and risk of nanoparticles. A basis for the development of adequate methodologies, tools and indicators assessing the life cycle of nanomaterials will be presented. Students will get an overview on the life cycle methods together with the practical training in using life-cycle based tools. Students will receive one ECTS credit point for attending this course.

NanoImpactNet workshops for young researchers

05-Oct-2009 to 09-Oct-2009, Bilthoven, The Netherlands

NanoImpactNet organises three workshops for young researchers: Workshop 1: Relevant metrics for airbourne nanoparticles, exposure scenarios and exposure routes Workshop 2: Risk assessment of nanomaterials Workshop 3: Protocols to determine the fate and behaviour of nanomaterials in the environment For the announcement and registration form, please follow the link below. The deadline for registration is 15 September 2009

NanoImpactNet Conference

25-Mar-2009 to 26-Mar-2009, Lausanne, Switzerland

NanoImpactNet - the European Network on the Health and Environmental Impact of Nanomaterials - is a four-year European Commission sponsored, FP7 coordination project. NanoImpactNet will create a scientific basis for ensuring the safe and responsible development of engineered nanoparticles and nanotechnology-based materials and products, and will support the definition of regulatory measures and implementation of legislation in Europe. See: www.nanoimpactnet.eu The Integrating Conference on Wednesday and Thursday is part of a week of NanoImpactNet events. Monday 23 is devoted to a training school on “Handling Protocols and Toxicological Testing Strategies”. A workshop on “Protocols for Assessing Biological Hazards” will take place on Tuesday 24. On Friday 27 there are dual workshops on “Strategies to Assess Occupational Health Effects” and “Strategies for making Industrial Data Available”. The call for abstracts is open on the following topics: In-vitro and in-vivo nanotoxicology Uptake routes and translocation of nanomaterials Exposure assessment Occupational health and safety of nanomaterials In-vitro and in-vivo eco-nanotoxicology Environmental dispersal of nanomaterials Effects of nanomaterials on ecosystems Generation and characterisation of nanomaterials Laboratory protocols for nanomaterials (e.g. handling and dispersing) Risk and impact assessment strategies Life-cycle of nanomaterial-containing products Strategies to make industrial data available Risk communication and management Communication about nano-research with stakeholders The deadline for abstracts is 9 January 2009.

International Advanced Course: Public Communication & Applied Ethics of Nanotechnology

22-Mar-2009 to 27-Mar-2009, St Edmund Hall, Oxford, UK

This one-week intensive training course aims at enabling UK-based nanotechnology scientists and engineers to carry out a wide variety of public communication activities, discussing the social and ethical implications of their work with confidence. The programme provides leading experts in public affairs and communication, ethics, risk assessment and regulatory affairs in the field of nanotechnology. The participants of the course will acquire: knowledge of the relevant ethical, legal and social aspects of nanotechnology; skills to communicate effectively with the media and the public; an understanding of the issues involved in the public acceptance of nanotechnology.

Nano medicine conference: Commercialising Nanotechnology

31-Oct-2008 to 31-Oct-2008, The Royal Institute of British Architects, London, UK

Hear what international experts think the greatest medical challenges are, and how they can be met using new technologies to unravel the secrets of illness and create the means whereby we can all live longer, healthier lives, at this exciting international conference. One of the prominent sessions included in this event is Commercialising Nanotechnology. Commercialising Nanotechnology Session The purpose of this session is to examine the commercialisation issues associated with research, development, manufacturing and marketing of new medical products such as diagnostic devices, surgical instruments and equipment. Experts will give short presentations followed by a panel discussion for delegates to ask questions and feedback their views.

EuroBio2008

07-Oct-2008 to 09-Oct-2008, Paris, France

At the request of its prestigious International Steering Committee, and in view of EuroBiO's nomination as the leading life sciences event of the rotating EU Presidency, the Organizing Committee was set two goals: • to send the attendees home charged with ideas and opportunities • to generate a snapshot of the collective mind of all those present at EuroBiO regarding burning issues that will be of use to policy makers at national and European levels. To achieve this, EuroBiO 2008 is based on two highly innovative and interactive formats: the “House of Commons” Debates and the BioDialogues, which will take place respectively on Tuesday 7th October and on Wednesday 8th. During the Grand Reporting Plenary on Thursday 9th, Europe's decision makers will officially ask Conference what needs to change, for change to take place.

NanoBioEurope 2008
